What’s Kosher at Trader Joe’s?

July 12, 2018 By Shaindel Siev Leave a Comment

My summer was intended to be relaxing, I work in a school during the year so for the summer I am off work.  I’m not sure what I was thinking – I have 5 kids – there is no such thing as relaxing.  After a particularly difficult week I was more then ready for some me time when my friend asked me if I wanted to go to Trader Joe’s.  I’d never been to TJ’s before and being Jewish and we keep Kosher I immediately thought – I wonder what’s Kosher at Trader Joe’s?

I messaged a couple friends whom I know love going to TJ’s and asked them for their favorite items.  I got the kids ready for bed and excitedly got ready – I know that you must be nodding your head and laughing at the same time, what we moms find exciting.  I’m going grocery shopping as me time. #momlife in a nutshell.

Keeping Kosher is a complex list of rules and guidelines, It is so much more then just not mixing meat and milk.  There are also many levels of observance and my family keeps a quite stringent level. I love this post for a quick lesson in the ins and outs of Kosher.

We got to Trader Joe’s quite late – of course – trying to get out in the evening is almost an impossibility. But it was an amazing experience.  It reminded me of those Mom and Pop stores from my childhood.  The store was well kept, the workers were so pleasant and they didn’t kick us out at 10pm when they officially were closing.  We spent some time browsing the store and I was amazed at how many Kosher Items were available.

I filled a cart and the thing I was most pleasantly surprised at was the pricing! My total bill was just over $100 and I bought a lot!

Here are the items that I bought, as I shop there more times – and I definitely will, I will add to the list.
